In drafting his encyclical Laudato si', Pope Francis relied in particular on the work of the IPCC. Since then, the Vatican has continued to work closely with scientists from all disciplines to convince politicians.

An agnostic scientist... to present Pope Francis's most famous encyclical. On June 18, 2015, the presence of German climatologist Hans Joachim Schellnhuber (1) – a prominent member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) – to present Laudato si' from the podium of the Vatican Synod Hall, was a striking sight. "He made a significant contribution to the text," Cardinal Peter Turkson, president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace and coordinator of the drafting work, immediately justified.
